“If the Venezuelan government, for example, approves a law to protect consumers, they say, ‘Take notice, Chavez is a tyrant!’ Or they say, ‘Chavez is regulating prices. He is violating the laws of the marketplace.’ How many times have they criticized me for nationalizing the phone company? They say, ‘The state shouldn’t get involved in that.’ But now they don’t criticize Bush for having nationalize … the biggest banks in the world. Comrade Bush, how are you?”

Diagramming Sarah
Can Palin’s sentences stand up to a grammarian?
In a few short weeks, Sarah Palin has produced enough poppycock to keep parsers and diagrammers busy for a long time. In the end, though, out of her mass of verbiage in the Sean Hannity interview, Palin did manage to emit a perfectly lucid diagram-ready statement that sums up, albeit modestly, not the state of the economy that she was (more or less) talking about but the quality of her thinking:

“Tonight I call on the McCain campaign to stop treating Sarah Palin like she is a delicate flower that will wilt at any moment. This woman is from Alaska for crying out loud. She is strong. She is tough. She is confident. And you claim she is ready to be one heart beat away form the presidency.
If that is the case, then end this chauvinistic treatment of her now. Allow her to show her stuff. Allow her to face down those pesky reporters … Let her have a real news conference with real questions. By treating Sarah Palin different from the other candidates in this race, you are not showing her the respect she deserves.
Free Sarah Palin. Free her from the chauvinistic chain you are binding her with.

"Her nomination (and subsequent appeal) is a violent coup by feminism's bastard child, the ultimate victory for graduates of -- to use a recent and recognizable example -- the Julia Allison School of Female Achievement. It's been around for decades, and consists of a simple, brilliant strategy: Forget the slow and brutal path of actual accomplishment -- instead, do, say, and be whatever it takes to get The Men In Power to notice you, like you, and eventually need you."
